You can select one or both of the following options:
• Tuition Fee Loan – covers your tuition fees and is paid directly to the university.
• Maintenance Loan – helps cover your living costs and is transferred to your personal bank account.
In most cases, Student Finance will ask for documents confirming your family’s income.
If these documents are not provided, you will initially be granted only the minimum basic amount of funding.
A provisional assessment will appear in your Student Finance account within 4–6 weeks.
The final confirmation (Entitlement letter) will be sent to you by post or provided electronically.
The Tuition Fee Loan is paid directly to your university.
The Maintenance Loan is transferred to your bank account in three instalments — at the beginning of each term.
You start repaying your loan only after your annual income exceeds £25,000 (Plan 5, effective from 2023).
Repayments amount to 9% of your income above the threshold.
Any remaining balance is automatically written off after 40 years.
